Eeck! Where does the time go? Yes, i have been a MAJOR SLACKER! whoops..it happens. somehow 8 months slipped by and i realized that i hadn't written my 90 year old aunt back! am i that horrible?! I like to think not, just busy. She did get a letter from me yesterday after she had written to me to catch me up on the happenings in Lexington, KY for the last 6 months.
The quick version of events go something like this...
1) Went to visit friends in Chicago in May. She has since had twins (boy and girl) and they are now almost 4 months old and super cute!
2) Dated about 3-4 duds over about 3 months and they were just that, DUDS!
3) Rents came for a visit in mid June, I also got new gutters! Big month for me...
4) Car stopped going in reverse and My brother got married in early October! A lovely wedding, good food and great times were had by all. I made it until 1030pm then quickly went downhill after drinking an entire Solo cup of Vodka~ Enough said.
Insert 40 hours of work for last 6+ months, well over 70 trips to the gym, endless walks with the furry wonder and lots of sushi and laughs.
Well, 11 days til the Xmas madness ensues for about 8-10 hours, then you are left with that kind of sad, disappointing feeling of, that's it?! I will be traveling to see the rents' with my bros and sis-n-law for 4 days. A nice amount of time to get away and still like your family once you return. I am a little nervous about the airport mess since I have never traveled by plane for the holidays. Hope things will go smoothly. I am more nervous about boarding my muddy buddy. He stayed at the same kennel 2 years ago but it makes me feel guilty that HE thinks I may not return. He is very adaptable though.
Well, that is all for now. I will write at least 2 more times this year then try for a fresh start in 2010! That will certainly be my year!

** Ode to the Banana Clip!
ah yes,
the elusive banana clip has resurfaced!! i have now witnessed this somewhat bizarre, white trash, plastic hair accessory within the last few days!! hard to believe that anyone , 1) still owns one, 2) would actually use one for something other than an 80s halloween costume and 3) thinks that they will be taken seriously when doing so...
i saw this crazy and somewhat tacky contraption at the gym now on 2 occasions and once at the office!! i would almost rather have a touch of the swine flu then see this sight! kidding
anyway, the tiny, 86-pound asian girl (maybe 22-24) likes to rock them at the gym! she also clips it on the side of her head...like we we did back in 1989 or so! of course she also, wears her white sports bra as outer wear and looks like she would have been a great dancer on "in living color" back, what, 15 years ago!! yeehaw
the other sighting was at my own office~ OH , THE HORROR! this woman who is at least 45, super annoying and has this really bizarre faded, light reddish, mostly gray poofy hair six inches down her back was rockin' one. the mere fact that she was able to close that plastic "hair dam" with all of her wild 10lbs of hair is still a mystery to me! of course, just in the interest of full disclosure, she also wears TACKY holiday sweaters and DOESN'T think they are tacky at all! enough said..
this weather is great! first real day of sun since last friday?! almost 6 straight days of rain are over! thank goddess.. i took mick out for our usual run up at the local HS field and yes, he managed to find not 1, but 2 puddles of mud and literally rain full, 113lb-chunky dog speed ahead into both of them and then proceeded to have a drink, gross.
the "roomie" is here this weekend which is rare (thankfully). he and the g-friend are meeting up with some friends of his for an O's game later today. i really have come to appreciate 2 nights a week of just me and the furry wonder..
i am headed to chi-town next weekend and looking forward to it. my friend from hopkins work days lives there, is married and pregnant with twins! i haven't seen her for almost a year. she isn't due until early september but they think she will deliver in early august. i figured it would be a little easier to catch up pre-newborns!

*** Yea, great weather!
I am stoked (even capitalized) about this weather! I have already been to the gym and taken the dog out for a run and swim! He cannot stay away from the water no matter what season. He will run for a few minutes then takes off at break neck speed towards the "creek". He loves it!! Drinks some, splashes, chases minnows (kidding). Then is like an OLD MAN walking back with his tongue hanging out of his mouth.
It is 81 degrees here today and supposed to get to 85ish by 5pm. Awesome! My allergies are in full effect but I have been taking Claritin and that has helped the last 4-5 days. I will have to mow the grass again tomorrow but at least it isn't 55 and raining like it did Mon-Wed of this week.
I met up with a friend for drinks last night. I will call her "pins" because of her 2 min. pinchers she has. We had planned to meet at VIN in Towson, but to our surprise, they have gone out of business! I guess I wasn't really that surprised though. I had read that their food was overpriced and were located at the end of an alley next to a parking lot...oh well! I hadn't been there in close to a year with a person who will remain nameless...
We ended at the Rec Room and yes, it brought back memories of my TU days! Sooo long ago.
After a couple rita's we were trading stories of our latest "casualties" from MATCH.com All I can say is ugghhhhh!! How am I a "match" with a divorced father of 3 who smokes, never exercises, is an avid hunter and lives is PA?!!! Ok, if you don't know me, this is the OPPOSITE of my match! I am sorry to say that I am not looking for any "spelling bee champs" either (although i did extremely well in the 3rd & 4th grade) but if you spell the word "WHO" as "HEW" and English is not your 2nd language there are just no words...

** The rain has ended, ...I think!
wow! i am truly sick of the 3 days of rain we have had! i know my dog is too since he wasn't able to have a typical evening walk with all of this mess as well as the thunder and lightening last night!!
on to other things...
i really don't vent too often but i need to today. could be because the Novocaine is wearing off now from the tooth i had drilled earlier today or PMS or simply cause it's Wednesday! it's hard to say.
my roommate is such a douche! he is forever in a pissy mood, i would say 4-5 days of the week, and is always banging things and talking to himself! it is NO surprise that at 55, he is still unmarried! the woman he has "dated" forever must really have some magical powers of overlooking his constant bit&*ing, (about the government, golf, baseball, his coworkers, the weather, traffic)!!! you name it and i am 98% certain he will complain about it at some point in his life! oh, and just in the spirit of full disclosure, he has also broken at least 4 things of mine since he moved in a year ago and NEVER ONCE has apologized!! 2 wine glasses, a glass candle holder that was mounted on the wall, and my lock on my back door!! ok, so the first 3 i really didn't care about, the point is that he will NEVER taken responsibility like a normal human being and say, "sorry i broke your glass". it's not as if i would have asked him to pay for it, it is the principal of being a man and taking ownership! i really think he believes that he can do NO WRONG, ever!! that is pretty hilarious actually...
enough venting for now..

** Wow, it's almost April now!
yes, i have been a true slacker folks. almost 6 week since my last entry. do you forgive me?! lots has happened too. i will simply try to capture it in about 3-4 paragraphs...
sooo, march. well, there have been plenty of b-days celebrated! my bros was 3/21, my mom's 3/23, my cousins (he would have been 35 on 3/27) and my friend meggy's, 3/29! WHEW! like i said, i have a great memory for these things and enjoy the hoopla but need a break now!
i met up with a bunch of friends friday night at sushi sono in columbia! always a good time and great sushi..this was the first "leg" of meggy's b-day weekend extravaganza! a good time was had by all. we followed this up with some drinks at looney's in maple lawn. a very big sports bar with maybe 20 tv's in the joint. a true sports freak's dream come true...
last night, meggy and i hit up SALT in b-more! really good food located in a tiny row home that can maybe squeeze 60 people tops in there...(including the cooking and wait staff). she had the meat-a-tarian fillet and i had the coriander seared tuna with tuna pot stickers and seaweed salad!! SO GOOD! naturally, we ended on a high note with an ice cream sandwich filled with cotton candy ice cream! way better than i was expecting. we then headed to IXIA for some drinks. a very cool place that i had not been to in several years. it has kind of a dark, loungy feel, decorated with dark blue walls, funky paintings, huge chandeliers, gauzy drapes in the front dining area and some couches and chairs in a "mint chocolate chip" looking cow print.
today, and here is my official SHOUT OUT..Happy 33rd Meggy! you don't look a day over 27...whoo hoo!!
i am heading back down to columbia/ellicott city area later today. this gathering is a belated b-day lunch with my bro and his fiancee. we are meeting for mexican! the place will remain nameless for now as i don't want any paparazzi snapping photos as i make my way in the back door! haha
***here is my unofficial BIT^& for now..my "newer" neighbors are NOT cool. they moved in back in late October and have been doing tons of "renovations" that typically start at 8am on the weekends. it has now been 2 weekends straight of banging, hammering, drilling and now sawing today. at least i am leaving here soon for a few hours. my poor dog Mick, has to endure this crap though! *** enough of that. i feel slightly better now!

** I survived "red-heart-puke day"!
yes, thankfully, it is over!! no more RED-HEART-PUKE DAY for another year!
we can all go back to buying flowers for ourselves at more "reasonable" prices, eating chocolate that isn't heart shaped or colored pink or red, or has silly messages written on it (be mine, yours forever) and just generally enjoy being single again (if we still are).
i did have a good time last night. i got together with some friends (one was married with a 1 year old and needed to get out for a night on the town), had some wine and laughs and went to see "he's just not that into you" at harbor east downtown. a really good movie!! funny, yes, a little predictable, yes, but overall i say 3 out of 4 stars! this, by the way, was the first movie i had seen in the theater in over 1.5 years!! and yes, i do get out...just not to the movies!
after that, we had a drink at james joyce, a typical irish bar with 1 lone singer who sucked. little did we know that it was also a "singles party" with the BUD light girls! after 1 drink, we were outta there! we ended at the brewer's art in mt. vernon , got a drink and their awesome rosemary fries with crazy-good aioli!! i hadn't been there in years! in fact, a fond memory was when i went there on an "outing" in college and fell down about 3 steps on my way to their downstairs bar! i regained my balance and what was left of my pride before my date turned around to see what the horrible commotion was. meanwhile, i had twisted the SH&^ out of my wrist and almost took a knee! good times indeed...

** Superbowl whatever!
yes,
the time has come my friends. the one day a year of complete and total football chaos for all to enjoy! or loathe, if you hate football. let's all eat like pigs, drink like fish and get into a general food and alcohol coma today! kidding. i honestly could care less about this game! the RAVENS aren't in it so i may watch but more so for the ridiculously expensive yet entertaining commercials. and YES, i hope the CARDS crush the "terrible towel" team..STEELERS blow! :) if you're a true Ravens fan, you will NEVER, ever root for the Steelers! enough about that!
last night was fun. i met up with my cousin ...we will call her "Kenya" since that is where she lived for the last 6 years. she just moved back to the states a month ago and will put roots down in DC and continue working as a freelance photojournalist. her pics are really amazing and she has been fortunate to travel to many countries over the last 8-10 years...
we had sushi at Hanamura in Columbia. not the best place, but the least crowded. there are other places that i like more (Sushi Sono & Sushi King) but neither of them take reservation for 2 and they try to get you in and out in under 35 minutes. not a good way to catch up with someone you haven't seen nor really talked with in over a year. we had some decent rolls, (dragon, rock n roll, spicy tuna and spicy scallop). i will will give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. after that we headed over to Clyde's for a drink. i didn't get my usual, rita' folks! i got myself a hot butterscotch cocoa or something like that! it was cold out and i wasn't planning to have a late night. it was really good and kind of tricked my mind into believing it was dessert so that was good! i was home by 1130 for SNL and last til midnight..i think.

**wacky WEDNESDAY weather!
yes, it is late january and we definitely have a "mixed bag" of winter weather here! it started as some flurries monday then got colder, then we had a little snow yesterday (2-3 inches), then late last night that turned into freezing rain, then sleet and now it is pouring! ugh...
i wasn't surprised my office wasn't closed (from what i hear they never will). it took me about 25 minutes to clear the 1/2" of ice from my car and then shovel my front & back steps and front sidewalk (all the while sliding and practically pulling a groin)! as a result, i have decided that i have already had my 30-40 minutes of cardio for the day!
i got to work around noon and decided to leave at 445pm, 45 minutes earlier than usual. i thought that would lessen the chances of being stuck on 695 in crazy traffic and that it would still be raining and i was correct! i even ran to the grocery store for my typical (12-14 items) and was home by 530.
so, to recap the b-day, it was another good one!! saturday was low key and dinner at the Helmand was awesome as usual!! i think this was my 4th time and i am never disappointed. meggy and i tried desperately to find parking in federal hill so that i could get a 'rita at blue agave but after 40 mintues of looking, i was over that! we ended in fells (hadn't been there in about 2 months). we had some drinks at the "claw", then went into "the horse you came in on". who knew that saturday it was the PLACE to be! a former co worker of mine from the bank moonlights there and i hadn't seen him in probably close to a year. the "band" (guy on bongo drums and lone guitarist) were a good time. they were rockin' the 80s jams so when you are 30, you know all the words!

** My B-day! I am 30....Again!
ah yes, 30 again as they say! i don't feel any older, that is the good part. i did, however, have swollen eye lids and fingers though. i will certainly chalk that up to having overloaded myself with salt last night (both from the margaritas and from the tortilla chips)!
Things you do when you are older:
Eat lots of TUMS
Get up too early, go to bed earlier...
starting eating things with fiber (crackers, granola bars, cereal)
clip coupons, and not just because of the economy
get inpatient with "kids" that are say..23 and obnoxious (because you certainly never were)
lose track of things...keys, cell phone and what you did 3 days ago..
i will be heading to the gym shortly because the truffles i ate yesterday are not going to disappear from my thighs by just wishing them away...
i may do a little shopping as well, maybe get myself a pedi. my toes aren't bad and luckily, as far as i can tell, your feet don't change as rapidly with age and might i say, i have very attractive feet (as far as feet go)!
i am also going to dinner in balto with some friends this evening (the place will remain nameless, at least until tomorrow) as i don't want any stalkers! i have been there at least 3 times and it is very good indeed.
that's all for now folks...Happy Saturday!
